24 hours · 365 days a year

When it can't wait until Monday.

The emergency line runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Before we get in the van we'll try to work the fault out with you over the phone — it costs you nothing, and a surprising number of calls end there. If we are coming out, we aim to be with you within the hour.

Our Google listing reads “open 24 hours” because the emergency line is — it isn't a staffed office through the night. Ring 01423 566669 for quotes and bookings; for anything urgent out of hours, ring 07525 763337.

Ring us for.

If you're reading this in the dark with a torch in your teeth, the number is 07525 763337. The list is a guide, not a gate — if it worries you, it's worth a call.

  • Power off to the whole property when the street still has power
  • A circuit that trips the moment you reset it, again and again
  • Burning smells, scorch marks, buzzing or heat around a socket, switch or the board
  • Water getting into lights, sockets or the consumer unit
  • A shower, cooker or immersion that has failed and taken the circuit with it
  • Damage after a break-in, a storm or a leak, where you need the place made safe
  • Commercial premises that can't open tomorrow morning without it being fixed tonight

Before you ring

Six things to check first.

Half of the calls we take get solved in five minutes without anyone getting in a van. Work through these before you ring and, if we do come out, you'll have already told us most of what we need to know.

01

Look out of the window first

If your neighbours' lights are off too, it's a distribution network fault and not your installation — ring 105 free from any phone and the network operator deals with it. That call saves you a call-out.

02

Open the board and look, don't poke

Find your consumer unit and see whether the main switch is on and which breaker or RCD has moved. Tell us what's tripped and what's labelled next to it — that one sentence often tells us what's wrong before we've left the unit.

03

Unplug what was running when it went

Kettle, tumble dryer, immersion, shower, an extension lead in the garden. Unplug everything on the affected circuit, then try the breaker once. If it holds, plug things back one at a time — the item that trips it again is your fault.

04

Don't keep resetting it

A device that trips repeatedly is doing its job. Resetting it over and over on a wet or damaged circuit is how a nuisance fault becomes a dangerous one. Twice is plenty; after that leave it off and ring us.

05

If anything is hot, burnt or wet, isolate it

Switch that circuit off at the board and leave it off. Don't run extension leads from another room to work around it. If you can smell burning and can't find the source, switch off at the main switch and ring us straight away.

06

Then ring 07525 763337

Tell us the address, what's off, what you've already tried and what you can see at the board. We'll tell you honestly whether this is a tonight job or a tomorrow job — and if it's tomorrow, we'll say so rather than charge you for the hour.

None of the above replaces an electrician, and none of it is worth taking a risk over. If you're unsure, stop and ring — we'd far rather talk you through it at two in the morning than come and look at something that could have been left switched off.
